Volker Meyer takes over executive management

Cologne, 26 September 2018 – Effective 1 November 2018, the figawa Managing Board appointed Volker Meyer, the former Managing Director of the figawa Water/Pipeline Department, as the Managing Director of the association, in succession to Gotthard Graß.

Meyer is a well-established engineer in supply engineering and has been firmly rooted in the industry for over 25 years. He decisively influenced these through his work in recent years as chairman of various national and European standardisation committees in the field of drinking water. As Chairman of the European Drinking Water Alliance, he is laying the foundations for the harmonisation of materials and products in contact with drinking water in Europe.

At his own request, Graß will concentrate in the coming years in his function as managing director of figawa Service GmbH on the management of the in-situ applications consortium of the equipment industry for EU-wide biocidal product approval of so-called in-situ systems, which is currently being set up. Founded in June 2018 by 18 European companies, this consortium is to apply for and acquire the necessary approval requirements of the EU Biocidal Products Regulation 528/2012 for locally produced disinfectants for water hygiene.

The president of figawa, Dr. Günter Stoll thanked Graß expressly for the numerous achievements for the member companies of the figawa achieved by him in the last 7 years with outstanding commitment. "In these years you have not only set the right course for the successful further development of our joint work in Germany and Europe, you have also put the figawa team in a good position," said Stoll: "You have also provided decisive impetus for the future of our industry in key projects such as clarifying the political framework conditions for the biocidal approval of in-situ systems, developing joint industrial positions on the harmonisation of gas quality requirements in Europe or on the Building Energy Act for open-plan buildings, and developing a European framework for the requirements for materials and products in contact with drinking water. The FUTURE PROGRAMME FIGAWA 2030 also bears your signature".

"It was my wish to put the implementation of this jointly developed FUTURE PROGRAMME into younger hands," said Graß. "Volker Meyer, with whom I have been working very intensively and successfully since 2014, is a proven industry expert who will continue to implement the future programme with its clear focus on Europe even after I have retired in the coming years."
