REACH Regulation and Lead

The European Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 (“REACH”) stipulates that information on substances of very high concern in products in the supply chain must be passed on to consumers and made available to them on request.

This concerns all products containing a substance of very high concern ("SVHC") in a concentration of more than 0.1% by mass.   A list of the SVHCs to be considered is published by the European Chemicals Agency ("ECHA") and regularly updated.

As part of the last update of the list, lead (EC: 231-100-4, CAS: 7439-92-1) was also added to the list on 27 June 2018. This means that there is now an obligation to provide information if products contain lead, e.g. in alloys, in concentrations of more than 0.1% by mass.  It should be noted that the list itemises a total of 191 substances and thus obligations to provide information may arise for a variety of reasons.

Figawa will provide all member companies with a detailed document providing further information and suggestions for corresponding sample texts for use by both commercial customers and private consumers.
